Things to Think About When Using an Outdoor Toilet

Posted by admin - April 10th, 2009

When choosing your camping spot, it is important to consider the size of
your party, the view, and the relative proximity to community features,
but, if using a portable outdoor toilet, it is important to think about having
a bit of privacy whether in the form of foliage cover or having a branch to
hang a shelter on.

Popular portable outdoor toilet shelters will cost anywhere from $80 to $130 at many popular retailers, but often a tarp will work just as well.  Some shelters are freestanding and set up is the same as tents while other shelters have a simpler shower curtain set up.  Obviously, which type of shelter you have depends heavily on where you plan to camp, how much cover you will have, and how much you’re willing to pack into and out of your campsite.

Another thing to think about is what type of outdoor toilet you have.  The more popular units have powder that turns all waste into gels while other units merely cover the basics.  Price is obviously a factor when considering the shelter as well as the outdoor toilet itself.  Common retailers stock the basic outdoor toilet for as low as $20 while the more sanitary outdoor toilets using the powder-to-get system go for upwards of $80.
