When I was a kid growing up in Arizona, I belonged to the local chapter of Girl Scouts for several years. While I had fun going on a variety of outdoor excursions, and took great pride in the various badges I was able to earn, I had no idea the impact my Girl Scout training was going to have on future camping trips when I was older.

It’s amazing the instincts that kick in ten or even twenty years after the fact. Things like putting a bar of soap in the leg of recycled pantyhose and hanging it from a tree at camp, was a big hit when I was camping a few years ago with a group of “urban dwellers”.  They thought my technique for keeping the soap dirt-free was simply genius, but I knew it was a simple Girl Scout trick.  Stopping a fellow camper from turning over a rock with her hands, and showing her how to overturn it with her foot was another that I realized was merely instinct based on my Girl Scout Days.

Planning a picnic can be fun, as you know you will have a relaxing and enjoyable time on your trip. There are various items needed on a picnic like food, water, plates and other supplies. One item which is essential for any such trip is a blanket. You will surely need a blanket irrespective of whether you are going to a beach or a mountain spot.

Picnic blankets come in different prints and designs and if opt for a good quality one, it will last for years. Usually, picnic baskets come with a carrier, in which it can be packed and carried. You can even attach the carrier to your backpack. A waterproof picnic blanket is a must if you are planning a trip near a water source or if the ground at your chosen picnic spot is damp.
