How to Choose the Right Flashlight

The type of flashlight buy depends on how you use it and how often you use it.  A basic flashlight of good quality is an excellent choice for most jobs, as long as you remember to buy the batteries.  If you mainly use your flashlight in emergency situations which infrequent, it may be best to consider a model that doesn’t require batteries.  No battery models work by shaking or cranking a small handle and will provide adequate light in any situation.  If you use your flashlight for repair or construction you may need a heavy duty lantern and/or a snake or headlamp light.  A snake light can be bent to shine into almost any space and both it and the headlamp will leave your hands free.

If you are buying a flashlight, as part of an emergency kit for outdoor activities a compact powerful light that is waterproof and sturdy is best.  Someone who frequently enters their house or car in the dark may want a miniature key ring light to help see the locks.  A strong heavy baton type metal flashlight can be excellent protection in your home.  It is best to tailor a flashlight to your needs and keep in mind, if you have trouble remembering to stock batteries, you really should have a flashlight that doesn’t need them.
