I remember during one of my family trip with my parents we had surprised my dad by presenting him with warm coffee. What if you went on a camping trip and forgot the most important piece of gear?  The tent!   I don’t know how it happened.  My hubby packed the van and we headed to the shore, where we had a campsite near the water.  It was a seven-hour drive, and we were ready for this vacation.  My husband even replaced our old camping gear, since most of it had been hand-me-downs or yard sale bargains.

We got to the campsite in the evening and were starving, so we decided to grab something to eat before putting up the tent.  But an hour later, we realized the tent was missing.   The new propane stove was there, the camp chairs were there, and so were the sleeping bags, the lanterns, the binoculars and even the telescope.  But no tent.  My husband realized that he had left it sitting in the garage!

It was too far to go home to retrieve it, so we did the only thing that seemed reasonable, at the time.  We drove to the next town and found a motel that had available rooms, and spent out vacation camping by the side of their pool.  We left the stove, lanterns and camp chairs in the car, but my hubby enjoyed using the binoculars to examine some of the wildlife lounging by the pool!
