Perfect Gear for the Perfect Trip

Posted by admin - November 22nd, 2008

Everyone loves camping during the summer and knows that the right gear can make or break the trip. You need to make sure that you  have all you need if not you will really have to rough it. No one wants to be caught forgetting something or getting the wrong size sleeping bag. That is the most important thing too is making sure that if you are tall the sleeping bag is large enough for you.  You don’t want to be caught in the middle of nowhere with a small bag that leaves your legs and feet open to the elements not to mention the creepy crawlers.
Of course there are those who think that in order to have the best gear you need to pay a high price, this is not always true. I purchased some gear form a local store at a good price and it has done well for many years. It does not matter the cost of your gear just that it is the right gear for the trip. For example if you are taking a trip and planning to stay by a river bed you need to make sure you have a good warm sleeping bag, enough blankets, your tent should be fairly thick material as well and don’t forget to take your fishing pole to fish.

The Benefits of Luxury Camping Equipment

Posted by admin - November 19th, 2008

When camping, everyone know the importance of the essentials. But what if you’re looking to expand your camping experience? There is no shortage of luxury, or non-essential, equipment available to you. Tents and bedding are often the most rewarding source. Instead of cramming several people into one discount tent, imagine sleeping comfortably in a multi-room tent fit for several people. This is ideal for extended trips.

Of course, what good is a tent if what you’re sleeping on isn’t comfortable? You could choose a standard sleeping bag, or you could go the extra mile and purchase an air mattress. These come very close to the comfort of a traditional mattress, and can be de-inflated and used repeatedly.

A big concern for campers is the weather. If it’s cold, typically you’ll bundle up in clothes and huddle around a fire. Or you could stay in the comfort of your tent, warmed by propane-powered heater designed for indoor use. Camping is dirty business, so you could also consider buying a solar-heated portable shower. And if nature hikes aren’t your thing, bring along an mp3 player or portable DVD player. With all that’s available these days, there’s no need to suffer when camping.

The eclectic history of the Catamaran

Posted by admin - November 7th, 2008

The odd Catamaran dates back to the 15th century, where the first recorded history of it was in 1697, in the southeastern coast of India. He described it as “two light logs, that carry but one man, whose legs are always in the water.” This odd contraption sparked the interest of this particular Englishmen, but more widespread interest would not be prevalent until nearly 200 years later.

American Nathanael Herreshoff developed his own version of the Catamaran in 1877, his new boats showed increased performance and better sailing quality than any that had come before him. After winning several races, the boat was banned from racing until the 1970′s. This type of boat remained largely unpopular, being considered, largely a novelty boat. It wasn’t until the late 1950′s that the boat became more seriously looked at, and valued for it’s ease of use and stability. The mid 20th century became a boon for these boats, as they became extremely popular for their own specific brand of racing, gaining in popularity until they reached their present state today. They continue, however, to be more popular in Europe than they do in the United States of America. And for the future of Catamarans? Only time can tell.

Choosing the Right Sized Tent

Posted by admin - November 5th, 2008

Choosing a tent that’s perfect for your camping needs is important.  Tents come in all sizes, shapes and colors.  There is no one tent that’s perfect for everyone. It all depends on where you’re camping, how much camping gear you’re bringing and what you want to get out of your camping experience.

For those who are camping for a long time, are camping with family or have a lot of camping or fishing gear, they’ll likely want to get a large tent. There are tents so large you can actually fit several cots in them as well as all of your gear.  These tents are perfect for a large gathering and for housing numerous people.  However, they can be cumbersome to get around.

Some people like a more intimate rustic feeling when they’re camping. Those types of people would likely want a smaller tent. Tents can come as small as pup tents, which only have room for one person in a sleeping bag.  This is prefect for the camper who wants to travel light and have a more organic camping experience.
